Q.vegan roll call [08 Feb 2010|02:56am]

lilithbytes
[ mood | awake ]

Hey.  Everyone.
Community is really a word everyone should be able to identify with.  I would say that I am very comfortable and proud of the fact that I'm a queer vegan and I enjoy others who share my opinions, beliefs, unicorns etc about being queer and vegan.  This is a roll call, to see who's out there, especially current subscribers to this community - even though this community is a little bit snowed in (it seems), I'd like to offer a connection to anyone who wants to make it with me, via my own journal http://lilithbytes.livejournal.com.  Some of you out there I already know and love, but if you want someone who will read your journal and support your choices as a queer vegan, I'd love to help out.  It gets more than a little difficult sometimes taking on the challenges and obstacles of a less than caring mainstream.

I'm not political and this isn't about waves of activism and protest, it's a personal journal about my own unique experiences and adventures as I move into editing and publishing, its basically a call for support from the community I most endear.  So this is a blog roll call - If you want someone to add your blog, just leave your info in the comments.

With love and future dreams.

Please take this survey to help other lesbian moms! [13 Oct 2009|02:09pm]

choose_again

My name is Sequoia and I am a graduate student in Counseling Psych and a lesbian. As part of a GLBT course I am researching lesbian parenting; both so that I can help lesbian couples as a counselor, and in preparation of my own parenting goals eventually. I want to include some women’s voices as part of my paper so that it is not just about dry research. I am collecting these perspectives through an online survey, and then I will include snippets in my paper. Everything will be anonymous and only used in this paper.

Here is the link to the survey: http://tinyurl.com/yfz4e3h

This survey is to get personalized, subjective opinions and experiences about the decision-making and interpersonal process of lesbian couples who became planned parents through donor insemination.

To complete this survey, please make sure that you match the following criteria:

  • you identify as a woman-who-loves-exclusively-women, regardless of the term you choose to use.
  • you and another woman decided to become parents through using donor insemination (not adoption, not from previous relationship, etc) such that either you or your partner became pregnant and the intention is to raise the child together as co-mothers.

Feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you feel comfortable, with as much or little detail as you like.

This survey will be used in a graduate counseling paper, not in formal research. The results will all be anonymous.

Thank you so much for your participation and your inspiration!

You can help overhaul the 'Why Honey is Not Vegan' site! [17 Sep 2009|04:43pm]

You can help support a queer vegan...

If you think that the "Why Honey is Not Vegan" page is a valuable resource, please check out the link above to see how you can support the effort to completely revise and update the site. Also, efforts to help spread the word about this important project are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, I just joined this community and I thought I'd say hi.
My name is Asa, and I currently reside in New England. I was so pleasantly surprised to see that a community like this exists!
I am pansexual, genderqueer, and polyamorous. I've only been a vegan for about 6 months, but I was a lactose intollerant vegetarian for 3 years before that, so I really only had to give up eggs. Very nice to meet you all. :)

'ello - thought I'd introduce myself.  I'm 21 years old, ]gay (for lack of a better word), vegetarian since I was 15, vegan for about 2 years of that period (vegan now), pagan, eco-feminist, marxist, etc.  I'm also a nursing student in arkansas...kind of a double whammy for gay and vegan.  hoping to move to the pacific northwest once I'm out of nursing school, and then get involved in lots of sustainability related stuff.  I've pretty much given up on finding like minded people here in arkansas, but penpals/lj friends/chat buddies are cool =)

Gay and Vegan Don't Seem To Fit Into Rural. [29 Jan 2009|11:53am]

earthguy82
I've been sorta sleeping, but watching the community for a while. I live in Rural East Texas. It is very hard been gay and being a Vegan on top of that. So does anyone else know of somebody who might live in the same area?
Thanks

Hey :) [21 Jan 2009|09:41pm]

Hey everyone,

A very happy new year to you all!

My name is Imogen, I live in Cambridge UK. I was born female and am happy with my body but consider my self Gender Queer. I came out as gay at 14 (nearly wrote 144!!) and have been with my partner for a number of years now.

I am a photography student in Cambridge and I am just about to go into the final term of my 3rd year. I have covered quite a few topics over the last three years including self harm, mental health, eating disorders and physical disability. You can see some of my work here: Flickr or my own web site here: Indigo Clouds Photography

This term I want to do a project surrounding 'Gender Queer' and 'Transsexuality'. So I am looking for people who might want to be involved in the project. I will be hoping to photograph a few aspects of the topic including things like: following someone through aspects of their transition, photographing people with their families, following people to Dr's appointments, visiting and photographing both home & work, doing some studio shots (including partners, with/with out make up, in underwear etc) .. For helping me out you would get a copy of your images on a disk, a copy of your favorite 5 printed up to A2 and many many thank yous from me!

Having dealt with subjects that are often unknown to family members or friends I am more than happy for people to remain anonymous. As you can see from my self harm images most participants don't have their face in the images. I would like for some of those who wish to take part to be able to have their face in the images, purely due to the nature of the project.

I don't have any money to pay those who take part but I could help with travel costs if people are on a low income and I am more than happy to provide accommodation in the form of the sofa in my front room!

Please feel free to contact me with questions, anything you might like to know. Also, feel free to pass this post onto friends who might not see it on LJ or even to other communities. I would also like people to take part in a survey that will be part of the final project so if you would like to receive that you can get in touch.

Finally, during previous projects people have contacted me suggesting that aspects of the project might be highlighting the 'wrong' parts of the issues. I warmly welcome this contact and can only understand the subject to a point with out this source of information.

My contact details:

E mail - Imogen.Jo@Gmail.com
Mobile - 0754 99 33 030
LJ - New_Kinda_Freak

Thank you for reading,
Kind Regards,

Imogen May

Did Obama Team Play us On Bishop Robinson? [19 Jan 2009|01:21pm]

queerunity
During the inauguration kick off party at the Lincoln Memorial, openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson of the Diocese of NH gave the opening prayer.

The problem is it was not televised by HBO or NPR and there were 'technical difficulties' making it nearly impossible for the crowd of 500,000 to hear a word.

Demand to know why Bishop Robinson was part of the "pre-show" and therefore not taped.

angstypenguin
[ mood | hopeful ]

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but my friend Jenna (a.k.a. trashcan_chica) needs some help:

"does anyone know of any queer zines about living in rural areas or going to rural areas?

any help/pointing in the right direction would be amazing. i went through the whole Queer Zine Archive and couldn't really find anything.

thanks!
jenna b

p.s. i just got a wordpress site, sassyfrasscircus.com!"

Her (AIM) away message also says: "is looking for zines about/by members of radical queer ANTI-URBAN communities, so if you know of any..."

So please comment if you can help at all; thanks. :]

Bob Barr for President - Gay & Lesbian Words Banned [02 Oct 2008|04:29pm]

queerunity
In response to a Bob Barr for president blog entry that stated that John McCain is possibly bipolar when it comes to the issues.

I responded asking if Bob Barr was bipolar and discussed his former position against same-sex marriage for gays and lesbians. Well apparently the Bob Barr site doesn't like the words, "sex", "gay", or "lesbian".

Not surprisingly "queer" made it through, although since this post they now banned that word as well.

Here is how the text showed up before moderator approval (Since that time the post has not been authorized and has been deleted).

You voted for the “defense of marriage act” to ban same-*** marriage equality throughout the country, and now say marriage is a states issue and nobody has the right to discriminate. You tried so hard to discriminate against *** and ******* couples. You will never get my vote, to me you are a bigot, plain and simple.

vancouver taste of health! [27 Sep 2008|10:38am]

indienerdboi
my girlfriend and i attended the first opening gala of the vancouver taste of health festival last night!

we saw Howard Lyman [http://www.madcowboy.com/] speak - very inspiring; i'm going to buy my parents his book for christmas and tell them that the only thing i want for christmas is for them to try and go vegan for a month.

the entire gala event was catered by Isa Chandra Moskowitz! afterward, we were able to visit her in the kitchen and get her to sign my gf's copy of vegan with a vengeance. it was pretty awesome and my girlfriend [who never gives a crap about celebrities] was totally starstruck.

everything was really tasty and there were lots of yummy free samples to try out, including 50 cent tofutti cuties! delish.
